Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (PNP) is a protected area located in the districts of Idukki and Pathanamthitta in Kerala, India. It is notable as an elephant reserve and a tiger reserve. The protected area encompasses 925 km2 (357 sq mi), of which 305 km2 (118 sq mi) of the core zone was declared as the Periyar National Park in 1982. The park is a repository of rare, endemic, and endangered flora and fauna and forms the major watershed of two important rivers of Kerala: the Periyar and the Pamba.

Flora in Periyar:

• The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary possesses quite a rich and varied vegetation. The flora in Periyar National Park primarily consists of tropical evergreen forests (30,500 ha) and semi-evergreen forests (27,500 ha) around the tank. In the central part of the park, moist-deciduous forests and woody grasslands abound.

Fauna in Periyar:

• The fauna in Periyar National Park is characterized by a rich diversity of vertebrates, which are abundant in numbers. Although the figures are not well documented, the national park is believed to be home to 62 species of mammals, 320 species of birds, 27 species of amphibians, 320 species of birds, and 38 species of fish. Owing to such a variety of animals, Periyar National Park attracts a lot of wildlife enthusiasts.
• Indian tiger, Elephant, Sambar, Barking deer, Mouse deer, Indian wild dog, Gaur, Otter, Nilgiri Tahr, Wild Pigs, Niligiri Langur, Common Langur, Bonnet Macaque, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Striped-necked Mongoose, Sloth Bear, Travancore flying squirrel, and rare lion-tailed macaque.

Birds:

• Nilgiri wood pigeon, Blue-winged parakeet, Crimson-backed sunbird, Brahminy kite, White-bellied blue catcher, Malabar grey hornbill, Sri Lanka frogmouth, Rufous-bellied hawk eagle, Black baza, and Spot-bellied eagle owl.

 Fishes:

• Periyar latia, Periyar barb, Periyar trout, Channa barb, and Travancore loach.

Mudumalai National Park is a national park in the Nilgiri Mountains in Tamil Nadu in southern India. It covers 321 km2 (124 sq mi) at an elevation range of 850–1,250 m (2,790–4,100 ft) in the Nilgiri District and shares boundaries with the states of Karnataka and Kerala. A part of this area has been protected since 1940. The national park has been part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve since 1986 and was declared a tiger reserve together with a buffer zone of 367.59 km2 (141.93 sq mi) in 2007.

Mudumalai National Park is home to 55 species of mammals, and over 80 BENGAL TIGERS! The mammals that cn spotted here include deer, gaur, Indian elephant, Bengal tiger, striped hyena, golden jackal, bonnet macaque, leopard cat, jungle cat, among others. Rodents include the Indian Giant Squirrel, flying squirrel, and rats. Reptiles include spectacled cobra, Asian pit vipers, pythons, flying lizards, krait, and monitor lizards.

Mudumalai houses 227 species of birds, that is, 8% of the total bird species found in India. Here, one can spot birds like Black Flycatcher, Orange Flycatcher, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Malabar Trogon, Serpent Eagle, Mottled Wood Owl, Crested Goshawk, Minivets, Rufous Bellied Hawk Eagle, and many more.

Chital, sambar deer, barking deer, four-horned antelope, gaur, wild pig, and Indian elephant are among the herbivores. Nagarhole National Park is home to a wide variety of reptiles and more than 250 bird species.
